This was published a few weeks ago at artcal but I just happened to read it last night and it was quite insightful and thought provoking. I’ve spoken to friends about how artists get the leftovers in terms of money and the art market, the lack of policies and laws to protect and redeem the artist from his/her work and resulting profits. There should be copyright and royalty programs as well as auction sale benefits from now till past death, but there isn’t. There is no built foundation or fundamental set of laws that apply to the artist and the work the way it is for music, film, and other art forms. That is a pity, especially when the market was in such a boom earlier this decade. Now the economy has gone to shit and the opportunistic chances have once again been diluted and limited. W.A.G.E. is interviewed by artcal in this great informational article and there will be a public forum Dec 11th where I will attend. You should too.
